In this age of WordPress, Joomla and other powerful CMS, you would think building a site should be quite easy even for the technically challenged. But somehow, these African Government websites seem to have been lost in some kind of time warp that left them in circa 2000s. Cos how else does one hope to explain the sad mashup that are being used as official sites?
This infographic by Kathleen Ndongmo shows that African Government official websites have a lot of catching up to do in terms of looks and functionality.
Out of 54 African government official website portals, 38 rank ‘very poor’, 3 are ‘poor’, 4 are average, 2 are ‘timed out’, 1 is under maintenance, 1 does not exist, 4 are good and only 1 of 54 is ranked excellent.
Here are 5 of the very bad.
1. Official website of the government of
Seychelles
2. Official website of the government of
Mozambique
3. Official website of the government of
Gambia
4. Official website of the government of
Gabon
5. Official website of the government of
Chad
Governments in Africa really needs to step up their game and start awarding the contracts for the maintenance of these official web portals to capable hands.
